The Upper Peninsula Environmental Coalition has awarded the Wild Ones Keweenaw chapter a $1,500 Community Conservation Grant to create a native plant garden in Hancock.
“We are so grateful to UPEC for its support of our project, Native Plants for Pollinators and People,” said WOK president Marcia Goodrich. “This allows us to create an oasis for insects as well as an attractive roadside border for visitors traveling to Porvoo Park and the Hancock waterfront.”
In cooperation with the City of Hancock and the Hancock Beautification Group, WOK will plant a variety of hardy natives along the 120-foot long strip, including native honeysuckles, sedges, and barren strawberry.
