Anyone who has ever put a native plant in the wrong spot and watched it either die or grow into a huge, floppy giant may already know something about the importance of soils. But few gardeners understand more than the bare minimum about the ground under their feet.
Now there’s a chance to learn more about soils and how they drive the health of native plants. Dr. Ken Farrish, a soils scientist and professor emeritus at Stephen F. Austin State University in Texas, will give a talk on soils…
- When: 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 15
- Where: Zoom. Register here.
Farrish will focus on the physical properties of soil—composition, texture, plant-water relations, compaction problems, temperature and drainage—and discuss their critical role in plant survival and growth.
Farrish earned BS and MS degrees in forestry at Michigan Technological University and a PhD from the University of Minnesota.
Farrish’s talk is sponsored by Keweenaw Wild Ones.
