This lovely sedge will reward you with rich, green foliage and eye-catching seed pods if you put it in its sunny, damp happy place. It tolerates occasional flooding, making it suitable for rain gardens and bioswales, as well as water and wildlife gardens. The seed heads float on the water to colonize new areas, but more often they are probably consumed by wildlife, such as Ruffed Grouse, Wild Turkey, Wood Duck and Woodcock. A host plant for several small moths and the Appalachian Brown butterfly.
