Who doesn’t love maidenhair fern? It’s so graceful and delicate, you almost expect fairies and pixies to make an appearance. Yet this woodland plant is easy to grow if you give it what it wants: shade, some damp, decent soil. Maidenhair Fern prefers high humidity (which is usually not a problem in the Keweenaw) and does not like wind.

The plant is deer resistant and is beneficial to small, woodland creatures by providing protective cover. This attractive ornamental fern also works well in a shaded rock garden.
