A lovely, delicate plant. Not fussy, but it does like conditions found in open woodlands. The dainty white blossoms float atop graceful stems just before the mid-summer explosion of color in the garden. In the woodland, it can be a focal point after the spring bloomers have retreated. Deer and other mammals tend to leave this plant alone because it contains a chemical that causes that causes blistering of the mouth and digestive tract. This makes it a superb plant in areas with large amounts of deer.
