Keweenaw Wild Ones Karen Cayce and Marcia Goodrich had the chance to talk up the value of native plants Oct. 9 at Wonders of the Watershed (WOW), sponsored by the Lake Superior Stewardship Initiative. WOW was held at Dee Stadium, in Houghton.
Groups of about a dozen sixth graders hustled from one table to the next, where representatives from several agencies and nonprofits gave lightening-fast talks on protecting the watershed. WOK’s message reached about 300 students and focused on the role native plants play in minimizing stormwater runoff and erosion.
“It was exhausting, and it was really fun,” Marcia said. “Plus, we were thrilled to be sharing our message along with LSSI, the U.S. Forest Service, and many other awesome environmental advocates.”
