Container Gardening Workshop Aug. 12
Everyone is welcome to sign up for WOK’s native container gardening workshop, set for 6 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 12, at Marcia’s house in Houghton. WOK will provide potting mix and plain, plastic one-gallon pots. You can BYO container if you like; just don’t bring huge, tree-sized ones, please. If you do have a larger pot, we have wood chips we can put in the bottom to save on soil.
Lots of different native plants will be available from our sale, and experts Jill Fisher and Kear Backes will be there to offer advice.
Attendance is limited, so please register.

Giveaway Garden Installed in Baraga
Michelle Krallman and her husband live on damp ground–their emerald lawn never needs watering. They turned that soggy soil to good advantage by selecting a rain garden from U.P. Native Plants as their prize after winning WOK’s garden giveaway.
Michelle, a kindergarten teacher, loves sharing knowledge about plants and bugs with her students. Their home is located next to St. Anne’s Catholic Church, and she expects the rain garden will provide attract plenty of attention from passersby as it matures.
A Surge of New Plants Joins Our Summer Sale
It’s that time of year, when slow-to-start seedlings undergo a growth spurt. Scarlet bee balm, dense blazing star, late figwort, and Jacob’s ladder are now ready for their forever homes, along with purple coneflower, black-eyed Susans, and lots of other great native plants. We also have super deals on monarch mini-gardens.
These plants love the warm soils of summer. Just make sure to water them if it doesn’t rain, and they will thrive.

WOK to Help Celebrate Conservation District’s 75th Birthday
Keweenaw Wild Ones will be on hand to help celebrate the Houghton-Keweenaw Conservation District’s Diamond Jubilee celebration, set for Saturday, August 1, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Calumet Township Waterworks Park.
Along with all the other planned shenanigans, WOK’s Lynne Robertson will be leading free origami lessons, and we’ll be engaging the public in the magic of native plants.
Everyone is invited to join in the fun, which will include rock hunts, arborist demonstrations, scavenger hunts, and more.
