A tall, late season bloomer, Sweet Joe Pye Weed is best grown at the back of a border and will provide spectacular flowering and architectural interest when planted in groups. The plant prefers moist, rich soil that does not dry out. It blooms on the new season’s growth, so cut the plants back hard to about four to eight inches in spring. Attractive to birds and butterflies, Sweet Joe Pye Weed is a nectar plant for Monarchs, Swallowtails, moths, and bees, and the corolla of each floret is popular with hummingbirds.
