If you’ve gone for a walk in the woods, chances are you know this tough and pretty plant. It’s a great groundcover for dry shade and an excellent substitute for invasive exotics like periwinkle and snow-on-the-mountain. The flowers are nice, but like hostas, most people grow this plant for the broad green leaves. Interesting fact: big-leaved aster is also known as the toilet paper of the woods.
